Current Projects and Our Accomplishments

LRED members are continually looking for new and exciting ways to support businesses in our area.



  • Working with the Department of Transportation and the National Scenic Byway Foundation to obtain funding to complete signage and produce videos for the Peaks to Craters Scenic Byway.
  • Stages and sponsors local annual events:

             Valentine Dinner & Movie

              Mackay Winter Christmas Festival

              St. Patrick's Day Dinner and Movie

              Custer County Movie Night

              Mackay Rodeo Kid's Movie Night

              Mackay Auto/Truck Show & Rally

  • Supports and promotes Wings over Mackay RC Fly in
  • Assists with promotion of Mackay Days Free BBQ
  • Maintains a web page dedicated to recruitment of business, family relocation and annual events
  • Underwrites and oversees the Mackay Summer Market
  • Provides large vinyl banners/posters for local business and photographic enlargements
  • Provides posters and marketing material for local non-profit and fundraising organizations
  • Developed and distributed 12,000 Off-Road Trail Maps detailing adventures in the Pahsimeroi Valley, Mackay Min Hill, Little Lost River Valley, Copper Basin and Arco Pass
  • Hosts potential new business investors and families interested in relocating to Mackay
  • Regularly attends meetings of Mackay City Council, Custer County Commissioners, South Custer Historical Society
  • Provide and distribute South Custer County Museum Brochures

  • Obtained grants form Department of Commerce/Tourism to produce four promotional videos: 

   Craters of the Moon

   Mackay Mine Hill - Ghosts of Mackay's Past

   Mackay Free BBQ - No Such Thing as a Free Lunch

   Lower Cedar Creek - Mackay's Hidden Treasure

  • Created Mackay Arts Council and Mackay Community Events Council to re-open and operate Mackay Main Theatre and Marjo 
  • Established the Peaks to Craters Tourist Route in association with the Department of Commerce and Department of Transportation
  • Sub-contracted with US Forest Service and oversaw the re-routing and construction of new Lower Cedar Creek Access road and maintenance and preservation of the Sage Grouse Preserve
  • Obtained grant from Yamaha Motors to produce and distribute Trail Maps for ATV enthusiasts in and around the hundreds of miles of dirt roads and trails surrounding the Lost River Valleys.
  • Recruited the developers of Proud Source Water to locate their company in the High Mountain Technical Park
  • Obtained grants for playground equipment for Mackay's Memorial Park and improve Tourist Park / Annex
  • Worked with and coordinated Department of Commerce's Community Review Project
  • Worked with County Commissioner Lin Hintze in obtaining grant for Oscar Wornek Business Park and High Mountain Technical Park
  • Obtained the services of an attorney to license trademarks, Mackay ATV Capital of Idaho and ATV Capitol of the West
  • Negotiated a lease to reopen the Mackay Main Theater and Marjo Café
  • Created and underwrote Mackay Arts Council
  • Purchased a large format plotter/printer and provides promotional banners for local merchants and non-profit organizations
  • Obtained grant from INL to purchase Video Production Equipment and create Corporate Sponsor Membership and marking programs, promotional videos
  • Obtained grant from CHC Foundation to purchase large format printer/plotter which enables LRED to provide vinyl banners to local businesses, merchants and non-profit foundations.
